In preparation for the upcoming Shadowrun campaign, I have been tackling a lot of the technical aspects of the proposed format. Since we are planning on playing remote with Roll20, my intent is to stream and record the sessions. This is mainly for my own challenge, trying to figure out the technical aspects, but also for player reference. In theory, a guest may be interested as well, so I will need to configure those links also.
Current plan is to use Roll20 for the gaming and dice rolls, Discord for the voice and video chat, and Syrinscape for music and sound effects. The entire collection would then be streamed thru OBS onto either YouTube Live or Twitch (leaning towards YT).
So far, Roll20 works well, I have the first mini-adventure programmed and ready to go, pending characters. Discord also works well, and I can configure my second computer to connect without issue. The intent here is to provide the music layer as an extra Discord member, so that the players can mute the music if it becomes annoying, without affecting the overall game. I spent the morning sorting out VoiceMeter, to make sure the sound goes to Discord and not just out the speakers – so far so good.
On my main system, I will be running the game itself, plus an OBS structure, with a template overlay. Initial testing is good, and I think it is very workable, but I need to get a few players to connect, and a few more graphics pieces to fill out the layout. I am encouraged though that this will be fairly successful.
Once we are a bit closer, I will post the guest links, in case there is interest in watching or commenting during the games. Our tentative schedule is either every Friday evening for 3 or so hours, or every other Sunday afternoon for 5 or so hours – depending on the player’s availability.
