For something completely off my usual topics, I wanted to show off a recent acquisition.  The wife happened upon a website company which specializes in movie-related props, The Noble Collection.  Perhaps this site was more well known then I give it credit, but for us, it was something new.  The wife was very interested in the many Harry Potter items, in particular the Hedwig plush owl.  As a surprise, I ordered it for her, partially to be nice, and also to test out the quality of the products with something not quite so expensive.

However, in order to achieve free US shipping, I had to add another item, so I selected a letter-opener sized replica of Sting, the sword from the Lord of the Rings (I prefer to call it hobbit-sized).

The items arrived this week, and I am pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price.  Certainly, the tiny knife wont hold up fighting a Nazgul, but it is all metal (I expected possibly plastic), and the storage case is decent (not high quality wood, but also not plastic again).  The owl was as impressive as hoped, what I would consider “life-sized”, and very happily received by the wife.

Overall, I was rather happy with the purchases, and we have been eyeing additional items from their collections.  In particular, the full size Gandalf’s staff and sword replicas.
