After reviewing a number of tutorials on YouTube video creation, I ended up ordering an Amazon branded microphone stand, as an impromptu camera stand. This is a cheap option, and my concern was its ability to support and handle the weight of a camera. It arrived, and after some testing, I am rather happy with the results. By adding a couple of adapters, it holds both my phone as well as my much more bulky camcorder without issue, and without falling over. It is a bit shaky if it is touched, the thin pole tends to wave back and forth, but once it settles down it is fine. I definitely would not mount a DSLR or other high end (and heavier) camera, but for my low end gear, I am not concerned.
With its assistance, I managed to record a decent quality overhead video of my 3d parts, as part of my new strategy and video design. This also should work well for future tabletop games like Armada or X-Wing, since I can get a reliable overhead positioning.
