Continuing our efforts to kick off and push thru the challenges of online gaming, with our Shadowrun RPG campaign. We are still using Roll20 – the software works well for maps and dice rolling, but we continue to be challenged with the audio and video. At this stage, for our latest game we swapped back over to Discord. In reality, the video aspect really doesn’t add much. As long as everyone is attentive and at their computer, audio is all that is needed – so Discord is a good solution. And the background capability of video and audio through Roll20 has been challenging for our group to master, though I don’t believe it is an issue on the player’s side. It feels more like for our group, it just isn’t stable enough.
Beyond the technical challenges, we continue to also have scheduling issues. A bi-weekly game seems very problematic, although the Pathfinder campaign on the alternate weekends is not hampered by as many issues. Maybe we are just too busy for a second regular game, but for now we continue to fight our way thru. Fingers crossed, the sessions will get smoother and more productive in the near future.
