We had our Pathfinder session this last weekend, and after nearly 3 years, the group has finally arrived at the pinnacle of Mhar Massif, to face off against the elite agents of the enemy, and face the Runelord Karzoug himself. This starts the endgame of the campaign, which optimistically I am expecting to finish off in the next several sessions, potentially by the end of the year. Hopefully, all players can be present with the holidays – our schedule fortunately avoids most of the major conflicts. If they end up going slow, then it may stretch into January or even February, but I can’t see it going beyond that point.
In this last session, the group successfully befriended a member of the Skulk tribe hiding beneath the city, after having defeated their vampiric overlord. With the information and assistance, they were able to bypass much of the cities inhabitants, and now find themselves on the upper slopes. Quite unusually and unexpectedly, they have managed to accomplish all of this with no warning or alerts of the giants, avoiding the greater threats.
Having reached level 17, they are at the end of the advancement curve – they will acquire level 18 right before the final battle. Their research and caution has paid off well though, and they are in a good position for their assault – they understand the risks and limitations, and have the flexibility to adapt their tactics and abilities. These final battles will be faced without assistance or guidance from me, the group has demonstrated that they have long since surpassed their novice roots, and I consider them experienced gamers now.
