X-Wing – Rebel victory

Managed to play a game of X-Wing this past Sunday, and for the first time, managed to actually finish the game without running out of time.  The battle was pretty good, though due to lucky dice rolls it ended up going bad quickly for the Empire.  For our fleets, we are stretching the rules a bit – officially each team is only supposed to field one faction, but since we want to use the Millenium Falcon and Slave I, we have opted to allow Scum add-ons.  Basically, we build a Scum list, and a Rebel or Empire list, and the total of both come out to 200 pts or less.  Due to the setting, we restrict Slave I to the Empire, and the Falcon to the Rebels.  Works for us, and we can use the models then.

For the Rebels, I fielded Lando and Chewbacca in the Falcon, with an auto-pilot drone, along with Wedge in a X-Wing and Dutch in a Y-Wing.  My son fielded Boba Fett in an unnamed Slave I, along with Iden Versio, Gideon Hask, and Del Meeko in TIE fighters.  Sadly Hask was destroyed in a burst from the Falcon, and then Wedge managed to take out Boba Fett, both rather early in the game.  As the Rebels circled, Dutch finished off Meeko, which leaving only Iden versus a damaged but fully intact Rebel force, resulted in a surrender.  The auto-pilot drone was practically useless, due to a bad timing for its launch, and many of the bombs, mines, and jettisoned cargo ended up being poorly placed as well.

You will notice our new X-Wing gaming mat, which is much more immersive than the basic wood plywood surface.  Helps only a little bit better on the slip of the ships, but it certainly looks a lot nicer.  We also had a chance to try out the full set of Organizer Trays, which worked very well.  With all the cards, tokens, and pieces, it becomes quite a mess on the side – with these it kept it organized fairly well.
