I have been waffling a lot recently, with an on again, off again theory about changing the company which I work for. For the past many years, the current company has been going thru progressively aggressive cuts and layoffs, which adds to the stress and strain of life. However (thus far), I have been able to dodge or be immune to all the reductions.
Unfortunately, it is only a matter of time – either the cuts will hit me, or the company will simply fold up – it is highly unlikely that it will end up recovering to return to be a dominant force in the market. So I can either way and gamble, or make a change to hopefully stabilize my options.
Of course, change is always hard – most don’t like to cause change since it brings its own concerns and fears. This has made me hold off for quite some time, I could always justify staying in the current position since it was “safe”.
But today, I made the first step, and put in an application for another company. Honestly, I expect it is a long shot (more rationalization), and I am not really expecting much chance, but it is the start of a bigger process. Now that the bandage is removed, the next steps will hopefully be easier.
