Our second group is one of the families that are part of our group – the parents and their son.
Carter is playing Aliah No, the Half-Orc Monk (thus the green skin). He painted the figure himself, and I believe this was his first figure, which turned out pretty good. In the previous campaign, Carter played the groups Monk Bard, who was frequently getting caught up in trouble, and having to creatively talk himself back out, so it has been a bit of a learning curve to understand the basics of combat (not sure he ever really used a melee weapon in the last campaign).
Jennifer is playing Violet Evergreen, an Elven Feral Shifter Druid. She painted the figure herself, it was also her first mini, and similarly it turned out very nicely. In the prior storyline, Jennifer was the group’s Rogue, who circled combat until the best time to strike – so this time she gets to learn about the mechanics of magic and spells, along with the summoning of animals.
Andy is playing Strider, a Human Ranger. In his case, I understand the figure was painted by Jennifer, who apparently liked the process quite a bit. The name is an obvious reference, but the ranged combat style is quite a bit different from the prior character – Andy played the groups Barbarian in our earlier campaign.
During our first session, Aliah had a rather unceremonious introduction – she had hidden in a cart to try to ambush and surprise the bandits. However, when she moved to jump out and attack, a poorly timed 1 resulted in a tangled fall to the ground. She recovered, but after a particularly hard hit from the bandits was quickly defeated. Violet and Strider on the other hand managed to fight until the end of the encounter – Violet casting spells to aid and heal the group, while retreating from bandits that charged, eventually backing up Durgham the Dwarf Fighter in the last standoff. Violet also helped to control the battlefield, by causing the plants to reach up and harass the bandits (and some of the group) with an Entangle spell early in the fight. Strider meanwhile opted to take up a strategic location on the thatch roof of the outpost, and used it as a good spot to snipe at the bandits, defeating their leader rather quickly, and then picking out targets of opportunity as they became available.
