So, apparently this whole video production thing is difficult – to the level that it is hard to remember all the bits and pieces in a rapidly moving and evolving configuration.
Case in point – in order to have decent audio, it is important to actually start the recorder…
As noted before, I spent the time and effort to upgrade the audio environment for our game, and conducted several tests over the last week. Everything was spot on, and I am beyond pleased with the Zoom H6 recorder. During our game, I had some unexpected challenges (the lavalier mic would not function, and there was a strong hum I had previously not had). The first turned out to be a setting issue – I had not activated “powered plugin” on the recorder. The second is still a mystery – I am doing some additional testing tonight. Overall though, I managed some workarounds for the session that should have been decent, and still a good improvement.
However, after troubleshooting for a bit, I then forgot the most critical step of starting the recording. I only noticed it at the end, when I went to stop the recording, and noticed the activity light turned on. (facepalm).
As a result, although I have video for the session (some of which had its own challenges), I have no acceptable audio. And given that the content is already dry enough, a multi-hour silent movie is a non-started. So long story short, I am considering episode 6 to be lost, though I will provide at least a written summary at some point.
