Episode 6 – Summary

Since we lost the video content, here is a basic summary of the last game session, so that you are up to date:

We started by finishing off the existing combat with the Emperor Birds, that was rather unexpectedly interrupted during the prior session. The group managed to pull out a victory, and even save both of the goblins, though they ended up with a lot of damage overall. After some extended healing and rest, they opted to continue forth.

To their left, several hallways headed into the darkness, from which they could hear a distant crash and roaring sound – enough that the group opted to go in the opposite direction. They also opted to ignore the rest of the large main hallway, and instead turned to their right.

These tunnels lead into the catacombs of the Hellknight order, where their past heroes had been entombed. At first, they found some heavily decorated coffins, stone relics containing Hellknight heroes from before. As the ground debated the benefits and drawbacks of robbing from the dead, they were set upon by skeletons, entering from further in the crypts.

These undead forces rapidly worked to overwhelm the scattered group, and managed to attack from two angles – as the combat continued they realized the mindless skeletons where being directed by an intelligent by several undead Hellknight warriors. As the enemies closed in, several of the group fell to the attacks, before they were able to regain the upper hand – eventually the party was victorious again.

On investigation, they found that much of the crypt had previously been violated – which was enough justification for the rogue to break the seals on the remaining tombs. Although they were able to recover a number of useful items, we did have to have a bit of a side conversation about the meta-gaming aspects of grave robbing in a “good” group. In truth, this sort of activity is fairly traditional and to be expected, but the manner in which the group did so (or the lack of any concerns over desecration, even from the religious or lawful good characters), made me want to reinforce the roleplaying aspects of a roleplaying game.

That debate past us, the group opted to retire from the dungeon, to rest for the night, and recover – their minimal healing already exhausted. This time, they opted to revisit the goblins whom they had previously rescued, and decided perhaps they might gain some useful intelligence before re-entering the tunnels. Not surprisingly, the goblins strongly recommended the group avoid the southern tunnels, and the eastern end – their homes was in the northern tunnels alone. All other sections they knew to be particularly dangerous – especially the presence of a pair of small dragons that lived at the end of the main chamber.

The crashing and roaring noise the group had heard was likely Big Bumble, the goblin’s pet and mascot, a rather untamed bear whom they had adopted some time ago, but found to be a bit too unruly. The bear had been abandoned when the goblins fled from the Cinderclaw cultists – and likely was very hunger and angry at this point.
