Trying a new strategy this year, since the kids are old enough to start taking responsibility for presents. For each of them, I gave them a task of making a list of presents they wanted to find for other people – parents, relatives, each other, etc. For both, I gave them a basic price range, so they hopefully don’t go to extreme.
Yesterday, I went out with my oldest, and today I am going out with the younger one, to try to obtain whatever it is on their lists. I haven’t seen either list at the time I am writing this, so it will be very interesting to see what they come up with.
In the past, we really just did their shopping for them, and then they could claim credit, or they had a few dollars to spend at a school Santa Shop. This will be their first real time deciding and finding the items and taking full responsibility. Hopefully I am just there to drive, and perhaps provide some basic guidance.
