As part of the holidays this year, I am upgrading my 3d printer to a new Prusa I3 MK3S, which is expected to arrive some time today. I opted for the kit version, which will give me a project to work on while I am off of work for a bit.
However, this leaves my old printer as no longer necessary, so I am looking to sell it off to someone who wants to get into the hobby. It is a Monoprice Maker Select Plus, to which I have added a number of miscellaneous upgrades – it has a 3 point bed leveling tray, a borosilicate glass bed, updated firmware, replacement fans, adjustable feet and z-axis reinforcement. Overall, I have been satisfied with the printer – I am just ready for something a bit more robust, which takes advantage of newer options.
However, that isn’t to say that the Monoprice is “easy” – there have been many frustrating projects with it, and it certainly requires a willingness to troubleshoot and learn. I would consider it a beginner model, between price and features, but I don’t recommend it for a casual hobbyist. If you don’t understand the process, or have the willingness to research and learn, it most likely would be very frustrating. If you do have that willingness or interest though, I have found it to be very educational in the process and passable quality for the results.
If you are interested, the current list price is apparently $330 for a new model, as is I am looking for $200. However, I am fairly certain I am not going to ship the printer anywhere – it is rather heavy and certainly sensitive – so it would have to be a local transfer.
Since I expect there will be limited interest, more than likely it will be relegated to a back shelf where I may use it occasionally for miscellaneous extra prints.
