Octoprint Notifications

Another upgrade to my 3d printer setup – automated notifications. Although Octoprint does a very good job managing and tracking the printer operation, it isn’t so good with built in features with notifying me when a print is finished. As a result, either I check it frequently, connect remotely thru a computer or phone, or (more commonly) lose time before I realize that I can start another print.

Enter into the scene Octoprint plugins, specifically Octoprint-IFTTT (https://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/IFTTT/). The plugin is easy to configure, and links into the IFTTT system, which I then tied to an Android SMS message. The end result is my phone receives a text message anytime my print completes. Now I don’t need to check in on it, and don’t waste time not realizing it is finished.

Of course, this may cause issues in the middle of the night being woken up, and I need to test if it works when my phone is not at home, but this is a good start.

Although the software isn’t too difficult to configure, the documentation is rarely minimal, so it did require a bit of trial and error. I may still adjust a bit if I decide to modify the scripting a bit, or if the notifications become annoying.
