I am out of town yet again for work, so my access is limited, but I am able to report that the big print job of the first floor of the watch tower was successful – no layer shifts or other issues. The total print job was estimated at 18 hours and 21 minutes, it ended up at 21 hours and 28 minutes (an extra 17%) – but that is still a far bit shorter than the total print time of all the components individually.
Estimated material is 168 grams, have not yet had a chance to weigh out the final print to compare that accuracy.
Final print options were a 1.5mm layer height, with 10% infill. Printed in Hatchbox Grey filament. Support was turned off, except for manual supports added under the staircase.
As a secondary piece, the floor required an independent run of the door and archway – that piece did fail on the first attempt since the door didn’t have much surface contact with the heated bed. A second attempt ran fine however.
Fingers crossed that all the pieces will fit together well – then I can move on to the second and third floors.
As a side note – I scaled down the original pieces slightly. They are sized for 1 inch squares, which is great, but since Tinkercad utilizes millimeters, challenging. As such, I reduced the parts from 25.4 mm to 25.0 mm in the X and Y axis, though level the Z axis untouched. This made the rest of the math, and alignment of all the parts far simpler in the basic Tinkercad interface. I am hoping the final scale is close enough to not be noticeable.
