As the days of our move continue to stretch on, but our goal comes closer, I have been entertaining the idea of starting additional gaming campaigns. I previously mentioned the potential for a Shadowrun based space/sci-fi campaign, which I still have interest in, but my current focus has instead been turning towards Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Specifically, the Cubicle 7 4th edition version, which from everything I have found and seen, is a return to the “good” versions of 1st and 2nd edition.
Back in the day, I had many a fun adventure with friends in the grim setting of Warhammer, and more than a few successful campaigns. In particular, we played a significant portion of the Doomstones campaign (Hogshead Publishing’s version), which I rather enjoyed. It is apparently looked down upon by Warhammer players, since it is much more dungeon-crawl and less mystery/roleplay – but for our group, it was a fun series.
With this new edition, I am looking heavily into the Enemy Within campaign, especially as re-printed by Cubicle 7. I will most likely limit such a game to experienced and mature gamers, and most definitely a smaller than our usual massive group with only 4 or 5, but I think it could be a lot of fun. In particular, I like a few of the adjustments and improvements to the new game mechanics around characters and advancement which I think go a long way to making it more of a long term system.
If this ends up happening, it would be a good game for me to re-establish my video series with, with a much more intimate game system and style than our mega 10-man group. And with either the Enemy Within, or revisiting the Doomstones campaign, it would be content rarely visited these days.
