As of this coming Friday, we are launching a new RPG session, starting a campaign set in the Warhammer FRP 4e setting and rule set. I have been a fan of this game since the first edition, and have played most of the strategy and computer games, but there hasn’t been a group interested and a worthy ruleset for a while. I am thus far a fan of the 4th edition – it looks to be a strong return to the origins of the system, while also bringing a few new concepts to the game.
This particular game will be kept small – we have 5 players lined up, and I am willing to add a single additional one. None of the players are familiar with the current system, and most have only basic familiarity with the setting. In particular, this group was requested as an introduction to a friend’s son to RPGs, as a way to do father/son bonding with a group of like minded friends. Obviously, Warhammer could be a rough introduction, but I am a bit overwhelmed already with Pathfinder campaigns.
The choice of campaign is the Enemy Within series, which fortunately Cubicle 7 is working to republish updated for the current version. I have many of the original modules, and am familiar with the content, having run it partially in previous (long ago) campaigns. This may be a bit of a departure for me, since the campaign is more intrigue and roleplay than straight dungeon crawl and combat – hopefully I can adapt somewhat.
We will be using Fantasy Grounds for the campaign, though will not be using much of the automation. There simply isnt a campaign set for Warhammer 4e, and I certainly dont have the time to learn and program one. As a result, characters will be offline PDF managed, but we will use FG for dice rolls, wound tracking, and of course maps and line of sight.
Still unknown if we will film and record the campaign. I am open to the concept of streaming the sessions, though not sure I am up for filming and editing as such. And with the ongoing remote format, it isnt much more complex than the basic FG.
If you are interested in a streaming format, let me know in the comments, and I will set something up. Otherwise, you may have to settle for the occasional site update for the time being.
