In preparation for our Carrion Crown campaign, my prop-master (the wife) was tasked with coming up with a variety of game aids and props for the story. Things that would impart the setting, be tactile, and perhaps provide further background and clues. The entire group was very impressed with the results.
One of our more simple designs is the pages of the journal of Professor Petros Lorrimor. As an active adventurer, investigator, and collector of occult knowledge, the Professor’s journal itself would be a trove of detailed information and notes. However, before his untimely death, he tore out a number of the pages specific to his most recent study, left within the materials in his will to be given to the group.
These particular pieces were fairly basic to create – the adventure provided the text and details, and a simple cut and paste with a change of font covered the writing itself. These were aligned to the timetable of the actual campaign – the story began on the 8th of Arodus, in the year 4718 AR. The Professor is known to have died on the 23 of Erastus, only a couple of weeks prior, given a reference point for the various entries.
The records were printed on pseudo-parchment paper, and then distressed on the edges by tearing along a straight edge. For the binding side, the tear was much more rough, to simulate removal from a book. The papers themselves were left clean otherwise, since the journal would have been in decent condition. Then the pages were simply added to the character collection, as loose pages.
Within the notes, the Professor indicates a potential plot and suspicious activity by an organization referred to as the Whispering Way. Thus far, the group has found only minimal information about this group, their focus instead being on the more pressing topics of the Harrowstone Prison.
