Been recently inspired and interested in the possibility of a Call of Cthulhu based rpg game. Admittedly, not sure where I would fit it in on the currently packed schedule, so it would likely be later this year (after football season), and in truth I have never actually run that game system. However, I have always had the impression of it being a very solid option, and very strong in horror and occult gaming. The ability to use the system in any time period is also particularly of interest.
Right now, my focus is on the 7th edition of the game rules, using the Achtung Cthulhu setting. The World War II setting is always good for conflict, drama, and intrigue, and would make for a solid occult investigation with a strong basis on alternative history.
Unlike my other groups, this would be intentionally kept small, to a group of mature players, able to handle frequent and common character death as well as the complex clues and puzzles. Not something our typical 10 player group could really do – and not something I would want to try. Most likely will break it into several small stories, as I understand the standard format, with more than a few alternate investigators for each player.
Undecided if we will try to do this remotely or not – I prefer the face to face gaming, but then there isnt as much reliance on maps and boards. A virtual tabletop would work decently well regardless.
This also would give me a chance to utilize some of the mythos models I recently acquired, even if those creatures would simply slay the group.
More details to come, if I end up pursuing the idea.
