Another Wednesday, and a new Star Wars Legion game pitting the Republic Clones against the CIS Droids. Mission selection ended up with a “Intercept the Transmissions”, during “Clear Conditions”, and a “Roll-out” deployment. I was playing my unmodified Droids, while Thad was playing George’s standard Clone force.
Terrain was decidedly “fantasy”, utilizing a fair bit of rpg terrain instead of the industrial city and technology pieces of before. Per prior feedback, we trimmed down the amount of terrain, which made the overall game feel more open.
The battle ended up rather even with regards to kills, though the CIS managed to score an early foothold on the central objective. Part of this was due to deployment, part was due to a rather early end to the clone Arc Troopers. After round 3, the droid mass was all around the objective, and the few clone units really had limited options to move forward. It was clear that even if the droids were rapidly killed, the best the Republic could claim was a tie.
Overall, the Republic did have a much stronger game – previous game was very one sided. The clones really were able to destroy the droid reliably and fast, but the swarm was simply too large. Since the objectives are based on trooper leaders, this put them in a big disadvantage, there were just too many targets to take out quickly. For the CIS, the real standout was the droid snipers, they managed a solid 2 kills in the first turn, and several more in turn 3, really breaking the confidence of the clones.
