A-A5 Speeder Truck, phase 1

Started on the painting of my final skirmish piece, the A-A5 Speeder Truck last night, and managed to get most of the shell completed. As you can likely tell, I am going non-standard, and continuing my desert camouflage theme with darker browns rather than the light grey I have been seeing. Vehicle is pictured next to the finished Jyn Erso and R5 astromech droid.

The interior is fully painted, though admittedly not all that well – a thin wash of a couple of contrast paints. Eventually, it will be decorated with a custom Gonk droid, peaking out one of the doorways. The exterior was originally going to be light colored, with a drybrush of brown, but the drybrush ended up much heavier than expected. Ultimately, I embraced it and went all brown. Colors used are an initial layer of spray Wraith Bone primer, then a heavy drybrush of Army Painter Oak Brown. I layered on a second dry brush of Army Painter Leather Brown, but it was entirely invisible (shades were too close). A 3rd drybrush of Army Painter Kobold Skin worked much better, and managed to tone down the brown significantly, while also giving a sandier texture intentionally. Exposed electronics had an initial thin wash of Black Templar, but I will most likely be doing a second coat – the brown ended up covering most of that detail.

Other than the second coat, my next stage is the decorations, specifically some stripes. Still a bit undecided on the colors, but most likely at least some black stripes, maybe some red or green, and possibly some yellow around the ramps. Will be a bit of experimentation to figure out my preferences.

The pilot is most painted as well, just waiting for skin tone, and installation into the cockpit. Then the final touches would be some rocks and dried brush on the base before calling it complete.
