As planned, we held our first (hopefully annual) Twilight Imperium tournament on New Year’s Eve. Although we had planned to start at 2 PM, it was pushed back to 5 PM due to player availability. All 8 players battled long and hard into the night, with us wrapping up due to exhaustion at 5 AM after a 12 hour game. Sadly, we were not able to fully complete the game, ending on Turn 6, and players were not available to resume the following evening.
As a result, per the agreed mechanics, we had a summary judgement and the winning team was the Emirates of Hacan (which also happened to be myself). The Hacan had maintained a steady progression during the game, and were in a solid position to be the victor if the game had continued, but would have to have fought off the Empyrean who were making a late game surge, and the Yssaril Tribes who had started out strong and then slowed. The other factions were scattered behind by a couple of points, and could easily have been strong competition for the last points as well.
As planned, the travelling trophy is thus mine to hold until the next tournament, likely some time in the summer or fall of 2022, before next year’s New Year’s event.
I had planned to live-stream the entire game, but due to user error, I failed to actually click the “go-live” button on YouTube. Thus we streamed to a closed receiver, and there was no video evidence. The best I have is the photographic evidence of the final score and galaxy layout.
You may be able to see in the pictures some card holders I had built – this was a quick and simple design, but could be improved. Mainly, they kept falling over. But they did serve the purpose and helped to minimize the layout of cards on the table. I am planning on reworking them somewhat, likely to have several rows, and definitely to have support “feet” to prevent them from tipping backwards.
