I was gifted a rather ornate and awesome hand crafted, leather bound and aged book by my players (thank you to Thad and Robin) during our last game session and have been trying to come up with a use for it. Initially, the thought had been to write out the spell collection for a character, but I don’t typically get a chance to play. Or I could use it for various campaign notes – but that tends to be hit and miss, and frequently dropped mid-stream. A Warhammer “Book of Grudges” would be good, but I don’t really hold grudges like a Dwarf, so would sit unused.
However, what I do end up having a lot of is ongoing campaigns, and players to fill them. As such, I am going to use it as a memory book for all our various campaigns – a Book of Questing. My concept is a two-page spread per campaign that we start, memorializing the campaign, the game system, the date it was started, and eventually the date it concluded, along with something notable from the campaign. Most importantly though, the signatures of all the players of that campaign, during the life of the storyline.
On the rare occasion we conclude the campaign, I am envisioning adding a fancy ribbon as well to mark the occasion.
I obviously can’t go back to my earliest campaigns, but I can go back to our Rise of the Runelords campaign, which was the real start to the current ongoing groups. From there, I can add the Age of Ashes, Carrion Crown, and Extinction Curse, as well as a few non-Pathfinder games like Shadowrun, Starfinder, and Warhammer. In time, maybe it will be filled, but it will remain as a reminder of all the good times.
If you participated in one of the prior campaigns, I will be looking for your signature soon.
Now, I just need to find a theme-appropriate pen or marker to go with the book…
