I have run this website for a very long time now, at least from my own perspective, and have been posting videos for nearly as long for our gaming activities. Admittedly, I can’t say the material is riveting, especially if you are not a gamer too. My audio and video quality has never really been there either, though it does slowly improve. My sum total of followers who are actually interested in regular updates is probably limited to our specific group, and my wife (who is just being nice). Reality set in a long time ago when I knew this would likely never be a major income stream.
However, it is because of that, that the small notices are a big deal for me. At this point, the YouTube location has 34 subscribers, and every great once and a while, I gain a new one. As I add content, I slowly get more watch time, and one of my really old videos – a player introduction to the background of the Rise of the Runelords – still gets occasional interest.
Our gaming content, recently moved to Twitch, of course did not have much interest either for the first few sessions, but we were pleasantly surprised yesterday to find that we actually did get some visitors. Raided by ConcernedWhaleProductions, we had a few comments and a short bit of interaction, though I didn’t realize it until after the session. And we managed to score our first follower – special shout out to BrotherAnubis. This whole Twitch and raiding thing is new to me, so not sure if it is considered good or not, but in my mind, any attention can’t be bad, even if they only stick around for a few minutes. And the entire group was excited that someone actually saw us.
As such, with renewed optimism, we continue our slow burn. Hopefully, in only the next few years, we can double or even triple the audience to 3.
