This last Sunday was scheduled to be our final episode of the Extinction Curse campaign, with the final big climax battle against the Xulgaths. The game happened (video coming Friday), but the battle ran longer than expected. Thus far, we are 9 rounds in, and the big bad evil guy is still fighting strong.
This seems extreme, and it is. Part of our challenge is still a struggle with the technology – Foundry VTT works well, and is rather stable, but there is enough that is not programmed or automated to cause slow downs. In addition, despite the length of the campaign, not everyone is fully using the software to its capabilities. And of course we have the usual technical challenges (Discord this time was having fits).
Beside that though, level 20 Pathfinder 2e is a very complex beast. As detailed and intuitive as the keyword based system is, but the end game there is combos on top of combos, which makes many maneuvers trigger multiple other reactions and actions. This makes each step time consuming as we work to make sure we are not missing some option, rule or tactic.
Right now, it appears that we need another full session to wrap up the fight, and either save the Starstone Isles, or allow the Xulgath’s to destroy it once and for all.
