Our ongoing Warhammer FRP campaign finally concluded chapter 4 of our story, wrapping up the events of Power Behind the Throne. The events of Carnival and the plots reached a climax, and the group’s investigation finally managed to solve several of the mysteries. Of course, not all puzzles had a solution, or were able to be solved, but some of major threads are concluded. For the group, we bid farewell to the characters of Erdim, Anders, Milton, and Frederick, who have been active since the beginning of our campaign long ago. At this point, their stories are done – they have advanced as reasonable for the story – and now meet their retirement. In exchange, several new hired-swords will join the group next session, continuing the storyline with those that remain.
This gives us an opportunity to rebalance the overall mechanics, power level, and storyline, and inject some new energy into the characters. Most of the mechanics changes will eventually be captured in our house rules notes, but the primary change is a reduction of the experience curve. Previously, we awarded 100 xp after every session, a pace that became unreasonable after multiple years of story. We are reducing to 50 xp per session instead, to slow the advancement somewhat.
In the next session, we will be kicking off the next chapter of the Enemy Within campaign, with The Horned Rat.
