We finally managed our second session of our Travel campaign for the Pirates of Drinax, with the group continuing their investigation into recent pirate attacks on nearby systems. They began the session at Torpol, and set out to track down the damage Scout Courier ship that had fled the system. That brought them to a derelict space station, on the edges of the system, long abandoned, but used as a pirate “disposal” site. If pirates would have someone to eliminate, rather than simply spacing or shooting them, they would occasionally maroon them at the space station, until they ran out of supplies or food. Now apparently one of the pirate crew they were pursuing had opted to take shelter at the wreck.
During the exploration however, they found information related to a creature referred to as the “Chamax”, said to hunt by sound and activity, which had also taken up residence. Kneecap, the brave Troll soldier (who bravely opted to stay behind and guard the ship), intelligently opted to check the database for any would be information on such a threat. Unfortunately, a combination of minimal practical computer skills and some rather poor dice results, instead turned up only one relevant entry, to the creature known as the “Chanax” (note the spelling difference).
And thus, was born into our universe the Chanax, a small and timid creature similar to an Earth cat, known for its unique defense mechanism. Wherever it had evolved, it had been hunted by predators with poor eyesight, who reacted to fast moving creatures. As a result, the Chanax learned to simply stand still when threatened, an ability that evolution had stretched great lengths. Today, when threatened, or many times when simply looked at (since they are very timid), a Chanax will freeze in place entirely motionless, a state which it can maintain for hours or even days. In some extreme cases, Chanax have been known to starve or die of thirst, if the perceived threat continues long enough. It is only their long and fluffy hair and oversized eyes that have allowed them to survive, primarily as a novelty for wealthy owners, serving as pets and entertainment. Indeed, the matrix is now full of hours upon hours of Chanax videos doing little more than staring into space.
On mission, Kneecap became rather distracted as he began to drift down into the Chanax video rabbit-hole.
This particular adventure is being processed now and will be available for the full story on Friday per our normal schedule.
