Star Wars Legion – Welcoming Dan to the channel

Our most recent battle report is posted now, with Episode 083 matching the Empire against the Shadow Collective. This battle was our introduction to a guest player, General Dan, who was eager to join us for a game. Dan has quite a bit of tournament experience, and a very competitive Empire Tempest Force list – he was matched up voluntarily by William playing a revision of his Shadow Collective army. The Empire was heavy on the scout troopers and speeder bikes, the Collective brought Pykes, Swoops, and A-A5 Speeder Trucks.

Battle Report #083

The battle itself was short – it was effectively over midway thru turn 3. However, given the large number of activations (24 total), it was a lengthy battle report.

This was also a notable opportunity to truly use the Overrun rules, something we had to carefully read several times to make sure we hopefully understood it. Overrun is itself fairly basic, but the mechanics run rather counter to implied or inferred logic. For example, it is not an attack, it is not ranged, and it is not melee. But it otherwise is resolved identically to an attack. Thus Swoops can overrun and make their normal attacks in a given round. Overrun also doesn’t actually need the unit to land on or cross over the enemy – it only requires the selected movement tool to overlap the enemy, meaning that if you are close the unit, you can Overrun with a minor move. A few other special mechanics come into play as well.

Ultimately, I don’t believe Overrun really played much into the battle, though we also have recorded a new Geonosian battle, where George really focused in on the tactic. That video should be out next week.
