Adding a few new designs to the Etsy collection, as I slowly increase my options. This time it is a set of Vehicle and Terrain bases I designed, since I don’t care for the “free” vehicle placement. Basically, in Bolt Action, infantry figures have a 1 inch base, artillery and heavy weapons have bases of various sizes, but vehicles are placed just open on the field. Which is fine for the game – measurements are done from the hull of the vehicle. However, that format isn’t my style. I prefer my vehicles to have consistent base sizes, if only to be able to apply terrain effects and other decorations. Fire arcs are also useful to mark on the bases. So I designed some to fit my needs, and perhaps the needs of other players.
Each set consists of multiple bases – 10 small vehicles (2×4 inch), 4 large vehicles (3×6 inch), and 5 generic terrain bases (2×8 inch). The smaller vehicle base fit my needs for the armored cars, and the Bren carrier. The large vehicle base works well for my German Panzer tank. The terrain bases I am using for barbed wire fencing, but can also work well for walls, sandbag lines, minefields, or whatever else has area terrain features.
Each piece is cut from a sheet of 3mm pine plywood, and etched on the top with fire arc lines for reference. Since those lines will almost certainly be covered by terrain and paint, I also added notches on each side which provide for the same angles.
Originally, I was going to great a super-large vehicle template, but I have not found a need yet for a 4×8 vehicle, and for terrain it is too unique for each need. As my army evolves though with the game, I may add additional designs and options.
