Live-play upgrade

For quite some time now, as part of our Live-play sessions, we have had a collection of old laptops for the players to interact with the game and Foundry – look up rules, move their character, roll dice, etc. In support of that, I bought a set of the cheapest wireless mice I could find, literally at about $5 each. These mice are functional – they work for clicks, and for the most part reliable. However, since they were all the same, each mouse used the same wireless link channel when connecting.

This has led to a “fun” little game for the players each session where they work to match up the correct mouse with the correct laptop – something that changed randomly between games. Even more exciting, the mice would also re-connect sometimes to another computer during the game, leading to someone with two mice and someone else with none – of course always when they were in the middle of some action.

The joy of that game has worn thin, so I have finally upgraded the mice from wireless to now wired, along with an extra-fancy gold-colored shell. Same clicks and scroll wheels, no batteries, and less fun matching up the mice. In truth, these are also bottom of the barrel mice – they came in a bulk pack, and out of the 7 I connected immediately, 1 was already dead (the scroll wheel apparently being miss-assembled).

They were cheap enough that I was able to replace all the mice, and add a basic and small mouse pad, for less than the original mice were priced at.

Unfortunately, now I have an abundance of cheap, slightly used wireless mice with no purpose. If anyone has interest, let me a comment, and I can work with you to dispose and distribute them. If not, they will likely sit in a closet until my next big project effort.
