Our first seasonal one-shot is on schedule for this coming weekend (November 30), though the plans have changed somewhat. Mothership is still on the schedule, but we opted to start instead with an intro adventure for Shadowdark instead. I am working to update and convert the Crypt of the Everflame storyline (Pathfinder 1st edition, published back in 2009), which I think will work well as an intro.
The scenario is simple – a group of young adults are gathered, and begin a ceremony to reach adulthood. As is tradition, the village sends the group into the Crypt of the Everflame, where they must find the tomb of Ekat Kassen, and bring his everburning torch back to the surface. Every few years, the children are gathered for this ceremony, with those of age taking part. And every year, some succeed and some do not – the imagined horrors of the darkness being too strong for the young minds and apprentice skills.
This year, a new group of young adventurers have gathered for the challenge, and eagerly await the ceremony.
We will of course be recording the session for later publishing, and hopefully the game will go as well as I have hoped. Given the Shadowdark system, I do expect a few deaths of characters – as such each player will have 2 backups available amongst the villagers.
