• So I had a grand plan to start my painting miniatures series last night, and even organized, packed up, and hauled all the gear out to my location so I would be ready.  Miniature primed and ready to go, camera charged and set.  And then work develops an issue with one of my clients, with a major outage on a critical application.  8 hours later, the issue is resolved, but my night was gone, and the time for painting is past.  So much for the best laid plans.  Tonight hopefully will be quieter so that I can sit and focus,…

  • Adding a few units to the Runewars Miniatures collection with my younger son, this time adding in the Runewars: Daqan Infantry Unit Upgrade Expansion Pack, to boost the infantry units.  Obviously not painted yet, but assembled and otherwise ready to go.  Compared to other plastics that I have assembled, these continue to be remarkable easy to assemble, and still maintain their detail.  They are not quite as customizable as other sets, but they don’t really need to be, and it makes it much easier to avoid mistakes like the wrong arm on the wrong body.

  • A couple weeks ago, I purchased a couple of new notebooks, with the intent of managing a variety of activities.  In particular, I wanted a way to track the various work related activities.  I had previously experimented a bit with the process known as Bullet Journaling, but fundamentally, I couldn’t really get behind the method.  For me, it seemed forced to pre-create a list of action items, and then work on completing them – I mainly had too many items to track and recall, so it didn’t work reliably.  Thus it was abandoned after a few days. Instead, the approach…

  • Heroes are challenged to deal with the problems of the city, and face challenges and conflict. The first recorded session of the campaign. • Finished the content length editing for the first Hero System podcast, which went decently fast, despite the new software options.  As expected, not having to cache and render video at the same time was a significant time improvement.  Overall, the game session of approximately 7 hours was boiled down to 1 hour and 38 minutes, which is actually slightly more “dense” in terms of actual game play than our Pathfinder campaign.  Although we have a number of side conversations, the group is actually pretty focused on the storyline (and it helps that basic mechanics don’t have to be explained as…

  • As posted yesterday, I am trying out Adobe’s Audition software for audio editing, in preparing the files from the first episode of our Hero System campaign.  Unfortunately, I ran into a frequent crashing problem, simply trying to trim the bulk of the content down.  Once imported, it could read and modify the file without any difficulty.  But after a few trims, typically 15-30 minutes into editing, Audition would simply lock up, and refuse to respond.  An app restart would get things going again, but any edits would be lost, even with the auto-save functionality turned on.  As such, from a…

  • As part of my Hero System episode, I am trying out Adobe Audition, which has several tools to clean up the audio automatically, rather than my (inexperienced) adjustments.  It also should allow for much cleaner edits and merging of the various files.  I know the typical recommendation is Audacity, which is a free option, but I am also considering changing video editing to Adobe Premier Pro instead of Davinci Recode, so this is all part of the same experiment.  So far, not really noticing much of a difference, but then my skill level is very basic.  I have applied the…

  • Had a late schedule change, and had to postpone the latest chapter of the Rise of the Runelords.  Unfortunately, 2 of our players, fairly key in the climatic battle of Chapter 3 were unable to attend, and my game preparation had fallen a bit behind schedule.  As a result, we cancelled the game for this last Sunday, and naturally there won’t be a video or podcast for this weekend.  Our next scheduled game is on 9/24, with content to follow on the typical schedule.
